A Golfer's Journey
My journey from frustrated golfer to teaching professional spans forty years. I first became interested in playing golf after taking a golf/soccer/bowling course for P.E. at Wichita State University in 1967. That class was the only instruction I had until I became so frustrated with my game that I took a series of lessons at my country club.
I would like to say that my golf scores tumbled after the instruction. They didn't. But by using the techniques I learned, they began a gradual decline. Like many American golfers, I would rather play a round of golf than spend time practicing. Once I developed a habit of practicing as well as playing, I have been able to continue to improve and maintain my game.

When I retired from my full-time work and the Army National Guard, I decided to begin a new career. The career I chose was as a golf teaching professional. I had been saying for years that once I was retired, I wanted to make a living on the golf course. After observing the people I know who make a living on the golf course, it occurred to me that they never had time to play and enjoy golf. I stumbled upon the United States Golf Teachers Federation a couple of years ago and decided their program of instruction might be just the thing for me.
In July 2006, I attended the USGTF Golf School and became certified as a Level II Instructor. There are four levels of certification and I will be attending those classes in the future. During the course of instruction, we were instructed and tested on all aspects of golf including swing mechanics, playing management, golf psychology, rules and the basics of grip, posture, alignment and ball position that go into a proper setup.
It is my mission as a certified USGTF Golf Instructor to give each student the skills necessary to play the best game of golf they are capable of playing.
