Golf lessons may be scheduled at virtually any time to fit into your schedule. Locations can also vary based on where you live. There are several driving ranges and golf courses available at which you can attend your lessons. • How many lessons are recommended for beginning golfers?
An excellent program for beginners and less experienced golfers is the Len Hudson Golf 101 Program. It is a series of four one hour lessons beginning with the basics of grip, stance and posture, ball position, alignment and the full swing. Subsequent classes teach chipping, putting, rules, courtesy and golf management.

  • What is the recommended age for children to start playing?
Get your young golfer started as early as you want. To get them started and interested, a toy plastic set of clubs will work. If your golf course allows children along on their carts, take them out with you. Initially, riding the cart will be the fun part of their outing. As they get older, they will want to hit the ball. Let them hit it when they want but use your outings as a way to start teaching golf courtesy. At around five years old you can show them a basic grip and get them swinging some with short or junior clubs. At eight to ten (depending on the childs strength and interest} they can start into lessons or a Junior Golf program.

  • How can I get my spouse interested in golf so that we can play together?
If you are a serious golfer and want to play more, there is no better way to do that than by getting your spouse involved in the game. If they currently don't play, invite them to go out and just ride with you. If there is any interest at all from your spouse, they may eventually ask to hit a few. Don't be pushy. Let them get involved at their own pace and one day they will start asking about a set of clubs of their own. Then you have them hooked. As my wife says, "I like to play because you are in the prettiest place in town, I get to spend time with you, I get some exercise and there is a game to it." They will stay in the game longer and enjoy it more if they get a good start with a series of individual or couples lessons. The Golf 101 series, taken as a couple is a great way to insure competence and a long enjoyable golfing hobby.

  • When should I stop taking lessons?
Never. Actually never ever! Why? Because as we play we pick up bad habits or bad tips from other golfers. I recently played with a 3 handicap golfer. He can hit a 3-iron farther than I can hit my best drive. But, he had a swing flaw. It was rather minor but as he played, it impacted every shot he made. Because of a rather minor flaw, his balance was off, he was releasing late and often the ball went in the wrong direction. With one or two lessons he could have fixed it and significantly improved his already excellent game. A lesson or two in the spring or participating in my seasonal improvement series will keep your game on track.
